I’ve been doing mosaic on and off for years, and in recent times, I’ve done most of my ground floor and my bathroom. You can learn this art on a small, movable backing like plywood, but the principles can be applied to anything from tables to floors to walls to garden paths.

It’s messy and fiddly and time-comsuming, but it’s fabulously beautiful and very permanent if you do it right. Best of all, it can be done with any tiles, including those ones you have left over from doing that tiling job 5 years ago that you never got rid of.
